Description

This Strawberry Pretzel Jello Salad is a delightful no-bake dessert that combines salty pretzel crust, creamy sweetened cream cheese and whipped topping, and a fruity strawberry Jello layer studded with fresh strawberries. Perfect for potlucks or a nostalgic treat, its balance of sweet and salty flavors makes it irresistible and easy to assemble.

Ingredients

Jello Layer

  • 6 oz Strawberry Jello
  • 2 cups Boiling water
  • 1 lb Strawberries, sliced

Pretzel Crust

  • 2 cups Pretzels, crushed
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 8 oz Whipped Topping, thawed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the pretzel crust.
  2. Dissolve Jello: In a medium bowl, combine the strawberry Jello powder and 2 cups of boiling water. Stir thoroughly until the Jello powder is completely dissolved. Set aside and allow to cool to room temperature.
  3. Prepare pretzel crust mixture: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the 8 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Stir in ¼ cup sugar until combined. Then add the crushed pretzels and mix evenly to coat the pretzels in the butter-sugar mixture.
  4. Press crust in pan: Transfer the pretzel mixture to a 9×13-inch baking pan. Use a fork or spatula to press the mixture firmly and evenly across the bottom of the pan, creating a crust layer.
  5. Bake crust: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow the crust to cool completely to room temperature.
  6. Make cream cheese layer: In a mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to combine the softened cream cheese with ½ cup sugar until smooth and fully blended. Then gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until fully incorporated.
  7. Spread cream cheese layer: Evenly spread the cream cheese and whipped topping mixture over the cooled pretzel crust, covering the entire surface.
  8. Chill for setting: Refrigerate the pan for about 30 minutes to help the cream cheese layer firm up slightly.
  9. Add strawberries to Jello: Fold the sliced strawberries into the room temperature Jello mixture, distributing the fruit evenly throughout.
  10. Pour Jello layer: Carefully pour the strawberry Jello and strawberry mixture over the cream cheese layer, spreading evenly across the surface.
  11. Final chilling: Refrigerate the entire dessert for 2 to 3 hours, or until the Jello layer is fully set.
  12. Serve: Once set, slice into portions and serve chilled. Enjoy the delightful combination of salty, sweet, and creamy flavors!

Notes

  • Make sure the Jello mixture is cooled to room temperature before pouring over the cream cheese layer to prevent melting or mixing.
  • Press the pretzel crust firmly to avoid crumbling when cutting and serving.
  • For best results, prepare this dessert several hours in advance or the day before serving to allow full setting.
  • You can substitute frozen whipped topping with freshly whipped cream if preferred.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture in the Jello layer.
