Description
Sweet and summery spiced caramelized peaches featuring sliced peaches sautéed with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until rich, golden, and perfectly caramelized. A simple and quick recipe ideal for serving warm, especially delightful with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Peaches
- 2-3 peaches (preferably semi-ripe)
Sauté Mixture
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Prepare Peaches: Slice the peaches into thin slices, leaving the peel on or peeling them if preferred.
- Melt Butter and Sugar: In a skillet, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat until the mixture becomes bubbly. Sprinkle in the ground cinnamon and stir to combine.
- Add Peaches and Cook: Add the sliced peaches to the skillet and cook for about 2 minutes until the juices begin to release.
- Caramelize: Increase the heat to medium-high and continue cooking the peaches, stirring frequently, for about 8 minutes until they are deeply caramelized and tender.
- Add Nutmeg and Finish: Grate fresh nutmeg over the peaches, stir, and cook for another minute. Then remove the skillet from heat and allow the peaches to cool slightly.
- Serve: Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful contrast.
Notes
- Use semi-ripe peaches as they hold their shape better during cooking; overly ripe peaches will become mushy.
- Peeling peaches is optional depending on your preference.
- Store leftover caramelized peaches in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently in the microwave in 20-second increments or on the stovetop in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through.
