Ingredients
For the Burgers:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
For the Tomato Cream Sauce:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp smoked paprika (divided)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Burger Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, feta cheese, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat to maintain tenderness.
- Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into thick patties, ensuring they are uniform for even cooking.
- Cook the Patties: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic and Tomato Paste: Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for about 1 minute, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet to infuse flavor.
- Make the Tomato Cream Sauce: Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Add the crumbled feta cheese, half a teaspoon of smoked paprika, and chopped parsley. Simmer the sauce for 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine Burgers and Sauce: Return the cooked patties to the skillet with the sauce. Spoon the sauce over the burgers and let them simmer together for 1 to 2 minutes to meld the flavors and heat through.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the burgers with extra feta, fresh parsley, and the remaining smoked paprika. Serve hot immediately, pairing well with keto-friendly sides like steamed broccoli or zucchini noodles.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef to keep the burgers tender and juicy.
- If the sauce becomes too thick, thin it out by adding a splash of heavy cream or water.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- These burgers are delicious served with low-carb sides such as steamed broccoli, zucchini noodles, or a keto-friendly salad.
