Description

This Balsamic Brussels Sprouts recipe features tender roasted Brussels sprouts tossed in a rich, tangy balsamic vinegar glaze with a touch of sweetness from cranberries. Perfect as a festive side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any holiday celebration, it combines savory, sweet, and tangy flavors in a vibrant, easy-to-make dish.

Ingredients

Brussels Sprouts

  • 2 pounds Brussels sprouts, halved
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • Salt, to taste

Balsamic Glaze

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar

Additional

  • ⅔ cup dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil to make cleanup easier and set aside.
  2. Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Place the halved Brussels sprouts on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt to taste. Toss them thoroughly to ensure every piece is evenly coated with oil and salt.
  3. Arrange and Roast: Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on the baking sheet to promote even roasting. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until they are tender and golden brown, stirring halfway through for even cooking.
  4. Make Balsamic Glaze: While the Brussels sprouts bake, combine the granulated sugar and balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Reduce the heat to medium and continue to cook until the sauce thickens sufficiently to coat the back of a spoon. The glaze will thicken further as it cools.
  5. Coat Brussels Sprouts: When the Brussels sprouts are done roasting, pour the warm balsamic glaze over them. Toss well to evenly coat each sprout with the flavorful sauce.
  6. Add Cranberries and Serve: Finally, toss the glazed Brussels sprouts with the dried cranberries. Serve warm as a delicious, colorful side dish.

Notes

  • Halve Brussels sprouts of similar size for even cooking.
  • You can substitute maple syrup for sugar in the glaze for a different sweetness.
  • For a vegan version, ensure the sugar used is vegan-friendly.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the baking sheet to achieve perfectly roasted sprouts.
  • The balsamic glaze can be made ahead and reheated gently before using.
