Description

This Japanese-inspired Teriyaki Shrimp Noodles recipe combines tender shrimp, vibrant bell peppers, and spaghetti noodles tossed in a flavorful homemade teriyaki sauce. Quick and easy to prepare, this dish delivers the perfect balance of tangy sweetness and savory goodness, making it a delicious alternative to your favorite takeout.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound spaghetti or noodles of your choice
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 yellow bell peppers, deseeded and cut into long strips
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Teriyaki Sauce

  • ⅓ cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sriracha

Instructions

  1. Boil Noodles: Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti noodles and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare Shrimp: While the water is heating, peel and devein the shrimp. In a large bowl, toss the shrimp with salt, black pepper, sweet paprika, and garlic powder to season. Set aside.
  3. Make Teriyaki Sauce: In a jar or small bowl, combine teriyaki sauce, low sodium soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, mirin, brown sugar, and sriracha. Mix well and set aside.
  4. Prep Vegetables: Deseed and slice the yellow bell peppers into long strips. Finely chop the yellow onion and mince the garlic cloves.
  5. Sear Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil and unsalted butter in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Place shrimp in a single layer and sear for 1 minute on each side until just cooked through. Remove shrimp from skillet and set aside in a clean bowl.
  6. Sauté Vegetables: Reduce heat to medium. Add sliced bell peppers to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until slightly softened. Then add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking together for an additional 3 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
  7. Add Sauce and Simmer: Pour the prepared teriyaki sauce into the skillet with vegetables. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  8. Combine Shrimp and Noodles: Reduce heat to medium-low. Add the seared shrimp back into the skillet and simmer for 1 minute to let the flavors meld. Finally, add the cooked spaghetti noodles and toss everything together for 1 more minute until well combined and heated through.
  9. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the teriyaki shrimp noodles hot for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute spaghetti with any noodles like udon, rice noodles, or soba if preferred.
  • Adjust the sriracha quantity to control the spiciness level to your liking.
  • For extra veggies, consider adding snap peas or broccoli along with the bell peppers.
  • Use low sodium soy sauce to keep the saltiness balanced.
  • To make the dish gluten-free, opt for gluten-free noodles and tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Cook shrimp just until pink and opaque to avoid toughness.
