Description

This Smash Burger Bowl offers all the savory, bold flavors of a classic smash burger without the bun, combining crispy, caramelized beef patties with fresh mixed greens, creamy avocado, tangy pickles, and shredded cheese. It’s a quick, customizable, and satisfying meal perfect for family dinners or meal prep, balancing comfort food with a lighter, fresh twist.

Ingredients

Burger Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for the best flavor)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Bowl Components

  • 4 cups mixed greens (spinach, arugula, or lettuce)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • ½ cup pickles, sliced
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
  • ¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup burger sauce (or your favorite dressing)

Optional Toppings

  • Jalapeños or hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat: Place the ground beef into a mixing bowl and season with salt and black pepper. Gently mix, being careful not to overwork the meat to maintain tenderness.
  2. Form Patties: Divide the beef into four equal portions and loosely shape each into balls, avoiding tightly packing to preserve texture.
  3. Preheat Skillet: Heat a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until hot for optimal searing.
  4. Smash and Cook Patties: Place the beef balls on the skillet spaced apart. Using a sturdy spatula, firmly press down each ball to create thin patties. Cook for 3–4 minutes until a deep, crispy crust forms, then flip and cook an additional 2–3 minutes until fully cooked through.
  5. Assemble the Bowls: Divide mixed greens evenly into four bowls as the base. Top with the cooked smashed burger patties, cherry tomato halves, diced avocado, sliced pickles, shredded cheese, and thinly sliced red onion.
  6. Add Sauce and Toppings: Drizzle burger sauce over each bowl and add optional toppings such as jalapeños or hot sauce to taste. Serve immediately while patties are warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
  • For a heartier bowl, add seasoned rice or roasted potatoes to the base.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack or blue cheese for additional flavor.
  • Store components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat patties in a skillet over medium heat or microwave for 30–60 seconds before assembling.
  • To keep the recipe dairy-free, omit cheese or use a dairy-free alternative and select a dairy-free dressing.
