Description

This Overnight Creme Brule French Toast Casserole is a delightful make-ahead brunch dish with a tender center and a caramel-infused crunchy top. Perfect for lazy weekend mornings or special occasions.

Ingredients

Caramel Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp white corn syrup

Custard Mixture:

  • Day-old bread cut into 1-inch cubes (about a 9-inch loaf of French bread or other firm white bread)
  • 1 1/2 cups half and half
  • 5 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Garnish (Optional):

  • Sanding sugar
  • Sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Caramel Sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth.
  2. Assembly: Pour caramel into a greased 13′ x 9′ baking dish. Add bread cubes on top.
  3. Custard Mixture: Whisk half and half with eggs and vanilla. Pour over bread cubes, cover with foil, and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Baking: Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes until golden. Garnish with sanding sugar and almonds.

Notes

  • I used Texas toast, but any firm white bread with crust removed will work well.
