Ingredients
Caramel Sauce:
- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp white corn syrup
Custard Mixture:
- Day-old bread cut into 1-inch cubes (about a 9-inch loaf of French bread or other firm white bread)
- 1 1/2 cups half and half
- 5 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Garnish (Optional):
- Sanding sugar
- Sliced almonds
Instructions
- Caramel Sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth.
- Assembly: Pour caramel into a greased 13′ x 9′ baking dish. Add bread cubes on top.
- Custard Mixture: Whisk half and half with eggs and vanilla. Pour over bread cubes, cover with foil, and refrigerate overnight.
- Baking: Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes until golden. Garnish with sanding sugar and almonds.
Notes
- I used Texas toast, but any firm white bread with crust removed will work well.
