Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving extra on the sides for easy lifting.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Spread half of the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking dish and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven.
- Pour caramel sauce over the partially baked cookie layer and spread evenly. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough over the caramel layer and gently spread to cover.
- Bake for an additional 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are set.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Use thick caramel sauce to prevent it from seeping into the bottom layer.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle more sea salt on top before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
- Reheat briefly in the microwave for an extra gooey texture.
