Description

Golden Greek Honey Pie, also known as Melopita, is a traditional Greek dessert made with creamy ricotta-style cheese, rich honey, and a hint of lemon, baked into a soft, custard-like pie with a golden top.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese (or Greek mizithra, if available)
  • 1/2 cup honey, plus extra for drizzling
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese, honey, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and flour until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
  4. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown on top and set in the center.
  5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with extra honey before serving. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Melopita can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For a lighter version, substitute part of the ricotta with Greek yogurt.
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or fresh berries for added flavor.
