Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 foot long Wieners
- 1 lb Filets or ground sirloin
- ½ lb crab meat
- 2 sub rolls
- Lemon Chili Rye Rub (to taste)
- Chives (for garnish)
Hollandaise Sauce
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- Juice of 1 lemon
- ½ cup melted butter
Instructions
- Heat the grill: Preheat your grill to high heat to prepare for cooking the glizzies and toasting the buns.
- Prepare the Glizzy Burgers: Slice the hot dogs lengthwise down the center to create a pocket, and stuff them with the ground sirloin or freshly ground filets. Season generously with the Lemon Chili Rye Rub to infuse bold flavor.
- Toast the Rolls: Place the sub rolls on the grill and toast them lightly until golden. Remove the toasted buns and set them aside.
- Grill the Glizzies: Place the stuffed glizzies on the grill and cook for 3-5 minutes per side over high heat to sear them. Then, reduce the heat and continue cooking until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness; medium rare is recommended if using freshly ground meat. Once cooked, remove and set aside.
- Cook the Crab Meat: Heat a skillet directly on the grill. Add butter and cook the crab meat over high heat for a few minutes until heated through and slightly browned. Remove from heat.
- Make the Hollandaise Sauce: Using a blender or immersion blender, combine egg yolks, Dijon mustard, salt, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice. Slowly drizzle in the melted butter while blending continuously to emulsify and create a creamy, rich hollandaise. Take care to add butter slowly to avoid breaking the sauce.
- Assemble the Burger Oscar: Place the grilled glizzy burger on the toasted bun, top generously with the warm crab meat, then drizzle with the freshly made hollandaise sauce. Garnish with chopped chives for a fresh, herbal finish. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, grind your own sirloin or filets to ensure freshness and ideal texture.
- Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature of the burgers for perfect doneness.
- Be careful when making hollandaise to add melted butter slowly to prevent curdling or breaking the sauce.
- If you prefer, substitute the crab meat with lobster or other shellfish for a different take on the Oscar style.
- Grilling the buns adds a smoky char and enhances flavor; don’t skip this step.
