Ingredients
Main Dish:
- 3/4 cup butter, divided
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 pounds diced hash browns, thawed and cubed
- 2 10.75 ounce cans condensed cream of chicken soup
- 2 cups sour cream
- 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Topping:
- 3 cups corn flakes cereal, lightly crushed
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350F.
- Saute Onions: In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and saute the diced onion until soft.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine cooked onions, hash browns, melted butter, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare Topping: Melt remaining butter in a skillet, add crushed corn flakes, and brown lightly. Spread over the casserole.
- Bake: Bake the casserole at 350F for 40-45 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can add cooked, chopped ham or bacon for a meaty variation.
- For a vegetarian option, omit the meat and use vegetable soup instead.
