Description

This French Onion Rice Bake is a rich, flavorful side dish made with buttery rice, caramelized onions, and savory beef broth—baked until perfectly tender and golden brown on top. It’s an easy comfort food that pairs beautifully with roasted meats or stands on its own.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed French onion soup
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can beef consommé
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, sliced
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onions (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium baking dish, combine uncooked rice, French onion soup, and beef consommé. Stir to mix well.
  3. Top the mixture evenly with slices of butter.
  4. If desired, stir in caramelized onions for added depth of flavor.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for another 25–30 minutes, or until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
  7. Fluff with a fork, season with salt and pepper, and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute beef consommé with vegetable broth.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or shredded cheese before baking for extra richness.
  • This dish reheats well—store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
