Description
This Elegant Blue Cheese Stuffed Pears recipe combines the natural sweetness of baked pears with creamy, tangy blue cheese, toasted nuts, and honey for a sophisticated yet simple dish. Perfect as an appetizer, side, or light dessert, it’s a quick and impressive recipe that balances flavors and textures beautifully.
Ingredients
Pears
- 3 ripe but firm pears (such as Bosc or Anjou), halved and cored
Blue Cheese Filling
- 4 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped toasted walnuts or pecans
- 1 tablespoon honey, plus more for drizzling
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Pears: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Wash and dry the pears thoroughly, then slice each pear lengthwise in half. Using a melon baller or small spoon, carefully remove the core to create hollow cavities. If needed, trim a small slice from the bottom of each pear half so they sit flat on the baking sheet.
- Make the Blue Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the crumbled blue cheese, toasted nuts, honey, and fresh thyme leaves if using. Gently mash the mixture together with a fork until it is well combined but still retains some texture. Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Stuff the Pears: Evenly divide the blue cheese filling among the pear halves, pressing gently to fill the cavities and keep the filling in place.
- Bake the Pears: Arrange the stuffed pears on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes until the pears are tender and the cheese is slightly golden and bubbly.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the pears cool for a few minutes. Drizzle with additional honey and sprinkle extra toasted nuts or fresh thyme if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute half of the blue cheese with goat cheese for a milder flavor.
- Add a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds after baking for extra texture and color.
- Try using hazelnuts or almonds instead of walnuts or pecans for a different crunch.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- To reheat leftovers, warm gently in a 300°F oven for 5–7 minutes; avoid microwaving to preserve texture.
- If nut-free, omit nuts or replace them with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
- You can assemble the pears up to 2 hours in advance and refrigerate before baking.
- Serve alongside roasted meats, salads, or as part of a cheese course for a complete meal.
