Description
Chicken chow mein is a delicious homemade version that beats takeout any day. Loaded with tender chicken, crisp veggies, and savory chow mein noodles, all coated in a flavorful homemade chow mein sauce. This one-pan dinner is sure to become a family favorite!
Ingredients
Chow Mein:
- 1 lb chicken breast, boneless, skinless
- 3 Tbsp oil
- 12 oz chow mein noodles, uncooked
- 2 cups cabbage
- 1 large carrot, julienned
- 1/2 batch green onions
- 2 garlic cloves
Chow Mein Sauce:
- 4 Tbsp oyster sauce, or to taste
- 3 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp light sesame oil
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
Instructions
- Prepare Chow Mein Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, chicken broth, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Cook Noodles: Cook chow mein noodles according to package instructions, then drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.
- Cook Chicken: Heat oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat. Cook chicken strips until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- Saute Veggies: Add carrots, cabbage, and garlic to the pan. Saute until slightly softened.
- Combine Ingredients: Return chicken and noodles to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Serve: Garnish with green onions and serve hot!
Notes
- When using cooked chow mein noodles, they should weigh about 1 lb.
- Oyster sauce saltiness can vary, adjust to taste if using regular soy sauce.
