Ingredients

Roasted Garlic:

  • 810 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt

Garlic Butter Custard:

  • Roasted garlic from above
  • ½ cup butter, melted (113g)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk (60g)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Assembly:

  • 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls, kept in full sheet form (or substitute with a French baguette)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped parsley and chili flakes for serving

Instructions

  1. Roasted Garlic: Preheat oven to 400F. Toss garlic cloves with olive oil and salt. Bake in a covered pot for about 20 minutes until soft and golden. Mash and set aside.
  2. Garlic Butter Custard: Combine roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and parsley in a bowl. Whisk until thoroughly combined.
  3. Assembly: Lower oven temperature to 350F. Slice bread rolls in half, place on a baking sheet, and bake until lightly golden. Dip bread in garlic butter custard, then bake until golden. Top with mozzarella, broil until melted. Garnish and serve.
