Ingredients

Apple Filling:

  • 7 to 8 Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Crumble Topping:

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Crunchy Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Instructions

  1. Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make Apple Filling: Toss apples with cornstarch and remaining filling ingredients. Cook until slightly softened, then transfer to the baking dish and bake.
  3. Make Crumble Topping: Mix melted butter with crumble ingredients. Sprinkle over the apple filling.
  4. Make Crunchy Topping: Optionally, mix crunchy topping ingredients and sprinkle over the crumble layer.
