Description

The Alaska Roll is a fusion-style sushi roll featuring fresh salmon, creamy avocado, and crisp cucumber, wrapped in sushi rice and nori. It’s a delicious balance of textures and flavors, making it a favorite among sushi lovers.

Ingredients

Sushi Rice

  • 1½ cups sushi rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt

Roll Assembly

  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 4 oz fresh sushi-grade salmon thinly sliced
  • ½ avocado sliced
  • ¼ cucumber julienned
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse Sushi Rice: Rinse sushi rice until water runs clear. Cook with water, then mix with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Cool to room temp.
  2. Prepare Nori and Fillings: Place nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread rice thinly over nori, leaving a 1-inch border. Layer salmon, avocado, and cucumber in the center.
  3. Roll the Sushi: Lift the mat, tucking fillings in, and roll firmly. Moisten the nori edge to seal.
  4. Cut and Serve: Cut each roll into 8 pieces. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, or wasabi.

Notes

  • The Alaska Roll is a great introduction to sushi making.
  • You can substitute raw salmon with smoked salmon for a different flavor profile.
